The term "sound thinking" is one that I've used for several years. It's even the title of an online video lesson series that I created a long time ago, but the more important point is that it defines how I view music as a listener and as a creative improviser/composer. In my book how something sounds is always front and center, with the thinking process taking a back seat and being more of a shadow behind the story. In fact there have been many occasions when my brain tells me that something is theoretical wrong and therefore shouldn't work, yet it does. Why? It's the way it sounds.
